Christopher Hardee Jr. at Shenandoah Mountain 100
The 2020 editon of the SM100, one of the most challenging and storied adventure races in the National Ultra Endurance series, was quite unlike any of the previous 21 editions of race. Thanks to COVID, there was no pre-race meal or post-race party, no traditional overnight stay at the Stokesville Campground and masked riders went off to contest the day against small groups of their peers. On a raw 40-degree day, when the rain was kind enough to stay away until right before the start of the 40-50-60 race (phew, we were worried that we were going to have a non-raining race this season), Marchio attacked from the gun and rolled away from the 40+ field mid-race for a convincing "W" and an impressive closeout of the 2018 CX campaign. With DJ already up the road in the 75-strong, combined 35+/45+ field, it was up to Darren to to figure out what was left in the tank after a bit more than 50 miles of hard racing on a challenging course. Darren found the right gear and broke out his most excellent field sprinting skills for the 45+ field sprint. George Ganoung had already slipped away with the earlier break and took the 45+ overall to claim the 2018 MABRA Road Race jersey. Stephen Robinson was 3rd. Text

Brew Wins American Velo Club RR, 35+ in Poolesville, MD
What's special about this one is the way DJ won - riding across, mostly by himself to a 3-man move that had slipped away before last time up the challenging Mt. Nebo climb and had maybe 30 seconds on the field. Nate Coleman (2nd) and Sean Barrie (3rd) had already gone off in pursuit of the escape and DJ collected them on the way across. Once the break solidified, it was all DJ in the sprint. Way to go DJ, you can add pursuit racing to your already-full resume! Text
